Internationally known for his unique drumming style and amiable personality, Master Drummer Frisner Augustin (in addition to his membership in La Troupe Makandal) has been drumming for Tonel Lakay since its birth in 1987. This renown artist began drumming since he was a young boy in Haiti and carried his love for Haitian drumming and rhythms overseas. This love is infectious, for he has taught classes in various universities, making the Haitian drums a popular instrument today.
Frisner's
devotion to demystifying Haitian voodoo, a large part of Haitian culture, has
earned him various honors and awards.
Most importantly, this devotion has infected all who pass through Tonel Lakay's
doors, helping to instill pride in and understanding of our culture, ultimately,
ourselves.
